This hand carved wooden Teaching Buddha statue, shows the characteristic tight curls, elongated ears and the eyes closed in meditation, all of which suggest the serenity of Enlightenment; the hand raised with palm facing outwards and index finger forming a circle with the thumb, is one of the Buddhist postures (mudras) that can easily be identified by the position of the hands - in this case, the Teacher (Vitaka Mudra).
This really is a stunning Buddha statue, beautifully hand carved and finished specifically for the Buddha of Plenty - we really are a mass-produced free zone! Once this beautiful statue is finished, the wood is then oiled and waxed before being shipped to us from Indonesia. After being allowed to settle (at least three months), a final coat of beeswax is applied by us, and then polished before being carefully packed.
This statue has been carved from the warm, close-grained wood known as suar or rain tree wood, which is grown as a sustainable crop. This was made in Mas, Bali, by the world renowned Balinese wood carvers and like all Buddha carvings imported by the Buddha of Plenty, it has been made specifically for us on a Fair Trade basis.
