This is a lovely item, hand carved from a single piece of selected suar wood (a tropical hardwood), taken from sustainable forests.
The characteristic tight curls, elongated ears and the eyes closed in meditation, all suggest the serenity of enlightenment; the hand raised with palm facing outwards and index finger forming a circle with the thumb, is one of the Buddhist postures (mudras) that can easily be identified by the position of the hands - in this case, the Teacher (Vitaka Mudra).
