Mushroom Carving - Closed Cap

Burl wood is a type of fast growing, abnormal growth found on some trees. Burlwood grows because the tree has experienced some sort of environmental stress or damage. This is often caused by either a fungal attack or an attack by insects (which explains why it is also known as parasitic wood). The number of trees that produce burl wood is quite low, and the wood itself is highly prized by artists because of its unique shapes and ring patterns.

The beautiful carvings we stock, are of art carved from a parasitic plant which grows on the chinaberry tree (jempenis) of Bali, Indonesia. These parasitic growths are cut away from tree tops and Bali's skilled artisans carve these splendid creations from the removed wood. Used either as mounts (like this one),or for the whole carving, the natural foothold of the parasite wood is left intact, for you to enjoy the natural beauty created by mother nature's own imagination.

As well as the closed cap mushrooms here, we also stock a flat mushroom carving - if you can't decide get both!
