Solid and heavy (although you should think nothing else considering it's a sculpture of elephants), this is a great depiction of a mother elephant and her calf. Carved from a single piece of richly grained tropical hardwood (excluding the tusks), the grain merely serves to highlight, rather then detract from the nature and strength of the carving.
The fact that this comes from Indonesia, is of particular importance as the elephant is revered in this part of the world, where it is viewed as a symbol of loyalty and power.
Once the carving is finished, the wood is then sanded, waxed and polished by the world famous Balinese wood carvers. And, like all products sold by the Buddha of Plenty, this carving has been made specifically for us.
A lot of elephant carvings are kept in stock, plus we also offer a bespoke service- please contact us for more details.
