This wonderfully understated elephant sculpture, is hand carved from a single piece of wood (excluding the tusks) by the woodworking artists of Bukittinggiand in Indonesia, where the neighboring forests provide an abundance of the sustainable wood called suriyan, a hard but workable medium for the carvers. The fact that this elephant carving comes from Indonesia, is of particular importance as the elephant is revered in this part of the world, where it is viewed as a symbol of loyalty and power.
After carving it is sanded, waxed and polished by the world famous Balinese wood carvers and like all carvings imported by the Buddha of Plenty, this wooden elephant carving been made specifically for us on a Fair Trade basis.
