A cheerful Buddha of Plenty arrives with the promise of a long and happy life, his big belly resounding with laughter. Dragging his gigantic sack which denotes wealth, luck, material happiness and the attainment of riches, the "happy" or "laughing" Buddha of Plenty is believed to bring good luck and happiness when his belly is rubbed.
This solid and heavy hand carved image of the Laughing Buddha, is made from a single piece of selected suar wood (a tropical hardwood), taken from sustainable forests. Once this beautiful statue is finished, the wood is then oiled and waxed before being shipped to us from Indonesia. After being allowed to settle (at least three months), a final coat of beeswax is applied by us, and then polished before being carefully packed. And, like all products imported by the Buddha of Plenty, this carving has been made specifically for us on a Fair Trade basis - we are a mass-produced free zone!
This solid, heavy, handcrafted statue would make a great centre piece, and if not the right size, we also stock other different sizes of Buddha, from 15cm up to 200cm
